We will be going into how to start and what to understand in wild rift.
The main goal of the game is to destroy enemy towers and ultimately their nexus. I will not be going into detail about the goals and basic mechanics of the game but you will be explained in full detail on that through the tutorial. My advice is first to go through the tutorial first and you can understand better about this guide.

As mentioned in our previous post there are five primary roles, each with its own responsibilities and playstyles. These roles are top laner, jungler, mid laner, attack damage carry (ADC), and support.
- Top Laner: The top laner is responsible for holding down the top lane and protecting the team’s upper jungle. Typically, top laners are tanky champions with high survivability and crowd control abilities. Their job is to soak up damage and disrupt the enemy team, while also pushing their own lane and keeping pressure on the enemy’s towers.
- Jungler: The jungler is responsible for roaming around the map and clearing jungle camps to gain experience and gold. They are also tasked with ganking (ambushing) enemy champions to create advantages for their team. Junglers often have high mobility and burst damage, and can quickly move around the map to help their teammates.
- Mid Laner: The mid laner is responsible for controlling the middle of the map and pushing their own lane. They are usually champions with high damage output and mobility, and are capable of taking down enemy champions quickly. Mid laners are also responsible for roaming to other lanes to assist their teammates.
- Attack Damage Carry (ADC): The ADC is responsible for dealing sustained damage to the enemy team, primarily through basic attacks. They are typically champions with high attack speed and critical strike chance, and often rely on support champions to protect them during team fights.
- Support: The support is responsible for helping their team by providing crowd control, healing, and protection. They often have low damage output, but their abilities can make a big difference in team fights. Supports are also responsible for setting up kills for their teammates and providing vision to track enemy movements.
Picking a Lane
The first step is to pick a lane and try to focus on getting better in that role. You should take your time to try out different champions and different roles in your first few games. In my opinion, it is always easier to start understanding the games and basic mechanics as a top laner. The top lane doesn’t have as much responsibility as the other lanes. It is just there to farm and fight until they are strong enough to tank for the other lanes.
The harder roles would be jungle and mid laner which acts as a pillar to the team in the early game. They need to do well in their role and help other lanes when possible. And the bot lane is focused on getting more items and being strong in the late game.
Now that you have already picked a lane, let us dive deeper into other mechanics. Each character in the game has stats and depending on their role they will have higher stats for the role. Wild rift has made it fairly easy to see which characters go to which lane. The problem is now trying different characters and finding out what they all do.

The hard part about wild rift is understanding all the characters and how to fight them. This is just one of the things that you will need to learn by playing more of the game and trying out different champions and matchups.
Champion Stats

There are 20 Stats in Wild Rift:
- Health (HP): This is a measure of a champion’s total health points. Champions with higher health can withstand more damage before being defeated.
- Mana: This is a measure of a champion’s total mana points. Champions with higher mana can cast more spells before running out of mana.
- Attack Damage (AD): This is a measure of a champion’s physical damage output with basic attacks and some abilities. Champions who deal primarily physical damage, such as ADCs, often benefit from building items that increase their AD.
- Ability Power (AP): This is a measure of a champion’s magical damage output with abilities. Champions who deal primarily magic damage, such as mages, often benefit from building items that increase their AP.
- Armor: This reduces the amount of physical damage a champion takes from basic attacks and abilities. Champions who are meant to soak up damage, such as tanks, often benefit from building items that increase their armor.
- Magic Resistance (MR): This reduces the amount of magic damage a champion takes from abilities. Champions who are meant to soak up magic damage, such as magic resist tanks, often benefit from building items that increase their MR.
- Attack Speed (AS): This determines how quickly a champion can attack with basic attacks. Champions who rely heavily on basic attacks, such as ADCs, often benefit from building items that increase their AS.
- Critical Strike Chance (Crit): This determines the chance that a champion’s basic attacks will deal critical damage. Champions who rely on basic attacks for damage, such as ADCs, often benefit from building items that increase their Crit.
- Critical Strike Damage (Crit Dmg): This determines how much bonus damage a champion’s critical strikes will deal. Champions who rely on basic attacks for damage, such as ADCs, often benefit from building items that increase their Crit Dmg.
- Life Steal (LS): This allows a champion to heal themselves by a percentage of the damage dealt with basic attacks. Champions who rely on basic attacks for damage, such as ADCs, often benefit from building items that increase their LS.
- Spell Vamp (SV): This allows a champion to heal themselves by a percentage of the damage dealt with abilities. Champions who rely heavily on abilities for damage, such as mages, often benefit from building items that increase their SV.
- Movement Speed (MS): This determines how quickly a champion can move around the map. Champions who rely on mobility, such as assassins or junglers, often benefit from building items that increase their MS.
- Cooldown Reduction (CDR): This reduces the amount of time it takes for a champion’s abilities to come off cooldown. Champions who rely heavily on abilities, such as mages, often benefit from building items that increase their CDR.
- Ability Haste (AH): This is a new stat that replaces CDR in Season 3. It reduces the time it takes for a champion’s abilities to come off cooldown, with diminishing returns for stacking.
- HP Regen: Is the speed of how fast your HP regenerates. The higher the amount is, the faster you regenerate health.
- Mana Regeneration (Mana Regen): This is a measure of how quickly a champion’s mana is replenished over time. Champions who rely heavily on abilities, such as mages, often benefit from building items that increase their Mana Regen.
- Armor Penetration: This is a stat that reduces the effectiveness of an enemy’s armor, allowing a champion to deal more damage with their physical attacks. Champions who deal primarily physical damage, such as ADCs or fighters, often benefit from building items that increase their Armor Penetration.
- Magic Penetration: This is a stat that reduces the effectiveness of an enemy’s magic resistance, allowing a champion to deal more damage with their magic attacks. Champions who deal primarily magic damage, such as mages or AP assassins, often benefit from building items that increase their Magic Penetration.
- Magic Vamp: This allows a champion to heal themselves by a percentage of the damage dealt with magic attacks. Champions who rely heavily on abilities for damage, such as mages or AP assassins, often benefit from building items that increase their Magic Vamp.
- Tenacity: This is a stat that reduces the duration of crowd control effects on a champion, such as stuns or slows. Champions who are susceptible to crowd control, such as melee fighters or tanks, often benefit from building items that increase their Tenacity.
You can see more details of each champion’s stats here: https://samurai-gamers.com/league-of-legends-wild-rift/champions/
Each champion has higher base stats depending on their role. For example, a mage will have more stats in ability power, and magic penetration. This will be further increased by leveling up and purchasing items for that character. The game itself will give you a recommended build guide that you can follow and you should follow it for simplicity in the beginning. But, when you are starting to understand the game you can find websites like this https://wildriftguides.gg/champions that rely on people’s votes on the build to know which are working best for the current state of the game.
Stats and Item Effects Interactions
I noticed that a lot of players do not seem to understand the basic of stats and items in the game. This is the most important part of wild rift and you should understand it. Wild Rift is a battle of mechanics and strategy between players. You need to know the interactions of each state and how you can counter other players.
So here are the interactions that you should understand:
- Attack damage and Armor: Higher armor reduces damage received from attack damage. Fighting characters that have really high AD can be countered by buying more armor.
- Armor and Armor penetration: Imagine someone has so much armor that your attacks no longer deal any damage to them. What can you do? Buy armor penetration items.
- Ability Power and Magic Resistance: Higher magic resistance reduces damage from ability power. Just like attack damage and armor.
- Magic Resistance and Magic Penetration: Same with armor and armor pen. Magic resistance is like wearing magic armor. You need some magic penetration to go through it.
- Lifesteal and Grievous wound: You will encounter someone that heals just as much as they damage. You just can’t seem to kill them as they heal up so much damage as they attack. This is where grievous wound comes into play. Grievous wound will reduce healing and regeneration effects. There is Bramble Vest which combines into Thornmail, executioner’s calling which combines into Mortal Reminder, and Oblivion Orb which combines into Morellonomicon.

- Tenacity and Crowd Control: There will be some skills in the game that stuns or charms champions. How do you counter someone that has a 2-second stun? You buy an item that gives you tenacity. This will help you reduce the amount of time you are stunned or charmed.
By simply having knowledge of these stats, you can surpass the majority of players in the gold rank. It is crucial to follow recommended item build guides and their corresponding order. However, comprehending the effects and interactions of these stats will enable you to make better decisions on when to purchase these items. For instance, if you’re facing a champion with a substantial base lifesteal like Aatrox, you can opt for a cost-effective approach by purchasing the less expensive items mentioned earlier, then combining them later in the game. Early on, you can invest 800 gold in Executioner’s Calling and complete Mortal Reminder in the late game.
Stats and items are the pillars of the game. Once you understand how each effect or stat interacts with each other you will be a better player already.
We will be going deeper into character guides and gameplay in the future. In case you missed the introduction guide here is the link
